The Women
Network of the Marañon River, which brings together 50 promoters and around 500
partners from the basins of the Marañon, Amazon, Ucayali and Tiger rivers, is
the result of the impact of "Welcome Health" as a response from his
listeners wishing to continue training and exercising social, political and
economic leadership as local authorities, managing services or carrying out
projects that will allow them to imporove their economy and living conditions.
- They are train for the development of productive projects which allow the generation
of additional cash income through the installation and operation of fish farms,
poultry modules, agroforestry farms and handicraft production.
- They learn
with a participatory and a constructivist approach about health, family
planning, human rights and local communities’ management.
The development of projects allows the promoters
to:
- Better
health conditions for them and their children as well as greater autonomy for
conducting proceedings within the local formal health, agriculture and
education systems achieving improvements for their families and communities.
- Regain
their traditional indigenous technology, lessening the pressure on the forest
and generating resources.
- Fish
farms and poultry modules that are currently implemented are an alternative to
household food security and income generation through management and breeding
of poultry and native fish.
- The
agroforestry farms and gardens of medicinal plants allow them to recover the
traditional management for the sake of health, especially reproductive
healthiness of women.
