25 years ago, we asked the indigenous women of the Amazon what they needed to create the world they wanted to pass on to their children: one of gender equity, economic sustainability, and climate resilience.

Their answers have transformed their communities, shaped our programs, and sparked change around the world.

Minga’s impact, both local and global, is thanks to our unique three-pronged approach: radio programs, empowerment training, and income-generating green projects.

Radio for
social change

Our intercultural radio program “Bienvenida Salud” (Welcome Health) has been on the air for 25 years, broadcasted to over 120,000 listeners in 7 languages.

In the Peruvian Amazon, a woman leads a class of young people in education training.
Leadership training
for women & youth

We invite our most active listeners to become community promoters by attending three years of progressive training, which they then pass on to their communities.

Minga works with families to build projects that care for their natural resources while generating income and raising a generation of youth who are passionate about the environment.

Global
Impact

The success of our work in Peru has made Minga a regional and global leader in communication for social change

Woven through all these programs is a strong emphasis on promoting and preserving indigenous cultural identity.

“At the leadership training Minga Peru brings in experts in areas that will help these women establish jobs and establish steady streams of income for their families… They teach the women how to build a fish pond, how to stock it, how to maintain it, and ultimately how to bring that fish to market so they can sell it and gain some profit.”

OUR MISSION

Minga strengthens leaders, organizations, and social networks representing the most marginalized communities of Latin America and the Caribbean to collaboratively build social justice with gender equity, environmental stewardship, and cultural identity.

OUR VISION

We imagine a future with resilient communities, local and international networks, and governments together promoting human rights and protecting the environment in an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable way.

OUR VALUES

Minga is a Quechua word that means “community collaborative work,” and that is the heart of our model. We co-design all our programs with our community partners, based on their talents, expertise, needs, and dreams.
